About the artist
Remarkably, the story of the late David John Park (born 20 November 1920) only began once he reached the tender age of 65. It’s hard to believe that he had not picked up a brush before retiring from full-time employment with South Wales Transport in 1985. Following retirement David joined a local community arts centre, merely in search of a hobby. His natural skill however became immediately evident and it wasn’t long before fellow students sought his advice.
His painting of the Mumbles Train brought back memories from his first job as a conductor on that very train line which served Swansea for over 150 years.
David completed over 70 canvasses which mainly capture the beauty of the Mumbles, Gower Coast and West Wales. Apart from a local exhibition many years ago, his work has not been seen or appreciated by a wider audience - that is, until now when the world wide web gives an opportunity to share his achievements .
